Treatments

Our needles are extremely fine and many people do not even feel them as they enter the body. We may use some techniques to stimulate the acupuncture points, many people describe this sensation as a tingling, warmth, electrical or similar. There should be no pain during your treatment.

The number of treatments needed varies depending on the condition, its duration, and your body’s healing response. Typically, many patients see the benefit after the first treatment. Treatment is initially recommended once or twice a week for 4-12 sessions.

Following successful treatments a transition to fortnightly or monthly sessions is suggested for maintenance and preventive care. Individual responses to treatment and personal health goals play a significant role in determining the frequency and duration of acupuncture sessions.

Please ensure you have a meal some time before your appointment and stay hydrated during the day. It is best to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. Medical gowns can be provided if necessary however, many treatments will only require you to roll up your sleeves or trousers to your knees.

If you are on any medications, please ensure that you inform your practitioner as this may effect the treatment plan. If possible, please bring a list to give to your practitioner.

Individuals with any metal implants or pace maker should inform your practitioner prior to treatment. Any circulation issues, diabetes, recent surgeries, or those taking blood thinners should inform your practitioner before undergoing treatment.

Some medical treatments, such as some minor procedures or giving blood recommend that acupuncture is avoided prior or post treatment . Please check with your practitioner or your medical provider if you have any concerns.

Acupuncture, Cupping and Guasha affect each person differently. Some people feel very energised, some relaxed and some feel tired, especially if it is your first time.

Please take note of how you feel and let your practitioner know at your next visit. If you are able to take some time off to relax and enjoy the after effects of your treatment, we recommend that you do so.

It is best to avoid intense exercise and alcohol with 24 hours after treatment as this may negate the effects of your treatment.

Absolutely! Acupuncture can be highly beneficial for alleviating symptoms during pregnancy, preparing the body for birth, and even during labour. Practitioners have the tools to ensure your comfort at all stages of pregnancy, with adjustable couches and tailored approaches. It’s important to inform your practitioner if you’re trying to conceive or are already pregnant, as there are specific acupuncture points contraindicated during pregnancy.
